Child abuse

Feedback

Child abuse is one of the most disturbing, and sadly one of the most common forms of abuse that is taking place in our country.

Any form of abuse that can be inflicted on an adult, can be inflicted on a child. Child abuse is defined as willful infliction of pain and suffering on children, and is not only sexual and physical, but can also include emotional abuse and neglect.

Signs that a child could be suffering from child abuse:

  • Avoids physical contact with others
  • Is apprehensive when other children cry
  • Wears clothes to purposely hide injuries, such as long sleeves
  • Refuses to undress for a sport or physical exams at school
  • Gives inconsistent versions about how they obtained the injury
  • Seems frightened of parents
  • Is often late or absent from school
  • Comes to school early and seems reluctant to leave to go home afterwards
  • Has difficulty getting on with others
  • Plays aggressively and often hurts peers
  • Complains of pain upon movement or contact
  • Has a history of running away from home

Our children are the future of our country, and it’s up to every one of us to protect them. Often children cannot help themselves. If you are, or know of a child that is being abused, you need to get immediate help.

Although not directly involved with child abuse, LifeLine takes this form of abuse as seriously as it should be, and has strong affiliations with ChildLine. Call Childline on 0800-55-555, or contact your nearest LifeLine Centre for assistance.
