LifeLine has developed a unique Know-Test-Live (KTL) programme. This programme focuses on both the employer and employee and aims to create an atmosphere of acceptance, non-discrimination and cooperation in the workplace by addressing the devastating impact of the HIV and AIDS epidemic on the workplace, the community and the country.
Behaviour change has been proven to be the only effective prevention of the further spread of HIV. The programme is made up of phases, which are implemented in a company over a period of time, ranging from 12 - 24 months, depending on the numbers of employees involved and circumstances particular to the company. The company is invoiced for work completed, and not in advance.
The AIDS in the Workplace Programme focuses on two areas of the workplace, i.e. workers and management. Although involvement with these two groups is in many ways similar, the approach varies to respond to specific needs of each group.
LifeLine’s vision, to promote emotional wellness for communities and individuals in Southern Africa by providing lay counselling, life skills training, lay counsellor development and related capacity building in the community, is reflected in its AIDS in the Workplace Programme. The main goal of the programme is education and emotional care and support towards sustained, responsible behaviour change. The programme is based on international best practice models and embraces the concept of behaviour change communication and in particular, LifeLine’s unique Know-Test-Live Model.
LifeLine is an accredited service provider with the HWSETA and all learning programs are aligned to the NQF and have been/are in the process of being registered.
A highlight in the WPP during 2006 was a research study conducted by LifeLine under the expert guidance of Dr. Madri Jansen van Rensburg on “An Evaluation of the HIV Peer Education Workplace Programme” for Aveng Manufacturing. The results of the research were very encouraging and in 2007 the LRU focussed on the implementation of recommendations from the study. Peer Education supervision has been implemented for all Peer Educators of Aveng Manufacturing.
