Since 1992, LifeLine Southern Africa has been tasked by the South African department of health, with the management of the national, toll free, 24-hour AIDS helpline. The Line is currently part of the South African Government’s 5 year comprehensive strategy plan on HIV and AIDS.
Annually, the line provides anonymous, confidential and accessible telephonic information, counseling, and referrals in all 11 official languages to over 1,4 million HIV- infected and –affected individuals.
The Treatment Line, a specialist unit of the AIDS helpline, is manned by professional nurses and provides callers with immediate, telephonic access to quality, accurate and specialised information and/or education on HIV and AIDS treatment issues.
